Ease of setup
Wix is famous for visual, drag-anywhere design. Shopify is quick for a standard store but leans on apps for extras. The Storemate gives you a page builder and ready themes with commerce on by default. If design freedom is your priority, Wix is strong. If selling fast in India is, an India-first setup wins.
Payments for India
This is the sharpest divide. Wix and Shopify support Indian payments, but UPI and COD can feel bolted on, with weaker COD controls. The Storemate treats UPI, cards, and COD as first-class. For a store where COD is half your orders, that difference shows up in conversions every day.
Which Indian gateways Wix and Shopify connect
Neither Wix nor Shopify runs its own payment service in India. Wix's help centre lists the providers it supports in India. They are PayPal, Razorpay, PayU India, Cashfree Payments, Paytm, Easebuzz, airpay and Nimbbl. Wix Payments is not on the India list. Razorpay on Wix supports INR only, and your Wix currency must match your Razorpay account. On Shopify, Shopify Payments is available only in certain countries, and India is not one of them. So an Indian Shopify store uses a third-party provider, and Shopify adds its fee on top.
How COD works on Wix and Shopify
Both treat cash on delivery as a manual payment. On Wix, you set up a manual payment and can title it Cash on delivery. The order shows in your payments tab once you mark it as paid. On Shopify, COD is also a manual payment method, and Shopify does not charge its third-party fee on it. You mark the order as paid after the courier collects the cash. On both, you track COD by hand. Plan who checks courier payouts each week.
GST and invoicing
On Wix and Shopify, GST-correct invoicing usually means a paid app you keep updated. The Storemate generates compliant GST invoices at checkout, built in. If you sell in India, that's one less app and one less thing to get wrong at month-end.
Total cost
Compare the full bill: plan, plus transaction fee, plus gateway fee, plus apps. Shopify adds a fee on each sale when you use a third-party payment provider, and gaps on either platform often mean paid apps. Which Wix plans can take payments
Wix shows its prices in US dollars for reference and says prices and currency vary by location. The prices shown are for yearly plans, paid in full up front, and taxes are added based on your billing address. Wix lists five plans: Free, Light, Core, Business and Business Elite. Accept payments first appears on Core. Wix's Razorpay guide also says your site needs a Premium plan that supports payments. So to sell, plan on Core or higher. Staff logins and team size
Count the people who need to log in. Shopify's Basic plan lists no extra staff accounts. Grow includes up to 5, and Advanced up to 15. Wix counts site collaborators instead. Light allows 2, Core 5, Business 10 and Business Elite 100. If you plan to hire a packer and a support person this year, check which plan covers them. A team can push you up a tier faster than sales do.
Apps on top of the Shopify plan
Budget for the jobs the plan leaves to apps. GST invoices are the common one for Indian stores. On the Shopify App Store, GST Pro is free for up to 50 orders a month. Its Startup plan is $9.90 a month for 300 orders, and it bills in US dollars. So a small store can start free, but a growing one pays in dollars every month. Add each app you expect to need before you compare totals.
Monthly or yearly on Wix and Shopify
The two bill in different ways. Wix says the prices it shows are for yearly plans, paid in full at purchase, though other periods are available. Shopify lets you pick monthly or yearly on its India page. Basic is ₹1,994 a month on monthly billing, or ₹1,499 a month on yearly billing. Yearly is cheaper on both, but you pay for months you may not use. Pay monthly while you test, then commit once real orders prove the fit.
Room to grow
All three scale, but differently. Shopify's ceiling is highest for global, app-heavy stores. Wix suits content-forward brands. The Storemate scales an India-focused store - more products, staff, marketing, and analytics - without a pile of apps. Pick the ceiling that matches where you're headed.
